Keep your home secure this New Year’s Eve

Although New Years Eve may be different this year, household bubbles joining for the evening will inevitably leave several properties empty. On a normal year, burglaries rise an additional 25% around New Year’s Eve, and this one may be no different in the eyes of a thief. Ensure yours remains secure by following our four simple tips, keeping you, your selection of new Christmas presents and your property safe whether you be at home or away.
Stay alert
Thieves are aware of the simple fact that many people may be under the consumption of alcohol over the evening of New Year’s Eve, and this factor has the ability to blur the awareness of you, your household or your neighbours. On an evening where the risk of burglaries is heightened, it may become your duty, on behalf of your own and your neighbouring properties, to stay as alert as possible, keeping your eye out for any suspicious activity.
Use your neighbours
If you know that you are going to be away for the day, ask your neighbours to keep an eye on your home for the meantime. As well as putting your mind at rest, this will allow your home to have additional security measures throughout the day, with eye-witnesses being available if the worst does happen.
Lock it up
We may sound like parrots on this point, but it is surprising just how may properties are left unlocked under the misconception that “it won’t happen to me!”. From doors to windows at the front, back and side of your property, ensure that these are locked securely and that keys are kept far away from any entrance points. A simple action with monumental impact!
Install an alarm
Although the previous points are helpful, the safety and protection a home alarm system brings is almost unbeatable. From wireless intruder alarms to SMS or App-based alerts, your comprehensive security system will allow you to feel safe, whether you are indoors or out.
