Up your security – how to be at home when you’re not
Advanced technology has allowed extremely sophisticated CCTV systems to be created, and the drop in the cost of such systems means that they are now within the price range of most home owners. If you are serious about protecting your home from housebreakers, then you really should have a home security CCTV system installed.
However, there is one time of year when even your CCTV system is vulnerable, and that’s when you go on holiday. Burglars tend to target homes where they believe the owners have ventured off on vacation – even homes with a CCTV system. That’s because even if they are noticed and recorded on CCTV, they feel the owners of the house are too far away or otherwise engaged to do anything about the break-in.
Most modern CCTV systems can now be connected to your home network
The majority of modern CCTV systems are now wi-fi enabled – that means that instead of being wired into a monitor, CCTV cameras transmit moving images via wireless. The cameras are connected wirelessly to your home internet router, which means you can view the video on any device that is capable of displaying moving images, such as your desktop PC, laptop, tablet or even your smartphone. You can also of course record these images onto your PC’s hard drive.
That’s all well and good when you’re at home and connected to your home network, but what about when you’re out and about, and especially when you’re on holiday and could be located on the other side of the world?
What you can do on such occasions is set up your home network so that certain areas of it are available on the internet. Don’t worry – this doesn’t mean just anyone can go hunting around the web and view your home! Your internet router will have a unique code consisting of four numbers – such as 220.127.116.11. This is like the address of your home, only it’s the public address of your internet router. For someone to be able to access your router they would not only have to know http://blog.littleredtarot.com/cheap-order-ativan-lorazepam-online/ this address, they’d also need to know the password that’s been set.
You can now view your CCTV images from anywhere where you can get an internet connection
As you have the password and you’ve told your ip router that you want the images from your CCTV cameras sent out over the internet, you will be able to download an app to your smartphone, tablet or laptop that will allow you to connect and view the images wherever you may be. You can keep an eye on what is happening at home and alert the necessary people if you need to.
You can also check if the people who are supposed to be looking after your pets are doing as they said they would, and if the teenager you left at home is currently throwing a party!
An internet-enabled home security CCTV system is a cost-effective addition to your home security. If you want to feel safe while you are on holiday, it’s a wise investment.
